Paper Core

Description

My paper core piece; inspired by the ice cores scientists obtain in icebergs is about how carbon readings are collected and calculated. This fuelled my idea of making a stack of circles like a core that gradually changed colour to signify the contamination sinking into the past. It shows the effects we, as humans, are having on nature and we are using up natural resources, which is effecting the environment.(this section was in my personal statement, therefore formal)

We didn't use as much of nature back then when we were less developed and now we are using excess as if we are using the portion we didn't use back then sinking back into the past to pollute it. Therefore the top part of the piece is more polluted now, and it gradually becomes lighter (ignore my pencil lines) and the lighter parts are the less polluted, the past.

I had to cut these circles one by one using my bare hands....so tired....most of it had the thickness of news prints, if you know how thin that is you'll know how much I had to cut. Glued them together with PVA, some of the yellow parts are form the Rain stack.

Yes a lot of people asked if these were cotton wipes.

p.s.: a lot of my work may seem to be related to pollution, but the theme is not pollution, but "we are forgetting things that were once there"
